February 2, 2026. 129 people sat down, logged in, and decided this was the year they were going to stop watching AI reshape their industries and start leading that change themselves.
That is Cohort 5. And it may be our most significant yet.
Not because of the number alone, though 129 students in a single cohort represents real momentum. But because of who is in the room, what they are carrying with them, and what it means that for the first time in the Academy’s history, we have a student joining us from South Sudan.
AI literacy is spreading. And AI Literacy Academy is part of why.
The People in the Room
129 students. No two alike. Every single one of them a deliberate choice to invest in a future that will not wait.
Kwabena Boafo-Mensah is a military security professional from Accra, Ghana. He enrolled to leverage AI for better efficiency in his field. When professionals in national security are seeking AI skills, it is a signal that no industry is untouched and no professional can afford to stand still.
Yakubu Kareem Ajani teaches mathematics and runs SmartMaths Academy in Lagos. He is not here for himself alone. He is here for every student who has ever found maths intimidating. “I want to learn how I can use AI to demystify Maths in order to boost the interest of my students.” That is what transformational learning looks like. One professional upskilling, and an entire classroom of young people benefiting.
Ladidi Kuluwa Bako-Aiyegbusi retired from public service on December 31, 2025. Three days into 2026, she was in the Academy ready to begin a new chapter. Most people would have taken a break. She chose to begin. That decision says more about the urgency of this moment than any statistic could.
Majirioghene Monnitey is navigating medical school and a career in digital marketing simultaneously. She is here because she understands something that many professionals are still catching up to: AI will not slow down for anyone who is not ready. She intends to be ready.
Funmilayo Adekanye designs costumes and makes films. She is not waiting to see what AI does to the creative industry. She is positioning herself ahead of it. The future of filmmaking is shifting, and she is determined to be one of the people shaping that shift, not reacting to it.
Omoloro Oyinbo is a Quality Assurance Manager working at the intersection of systems and healthcare. She is here, she says, to harness AI in “the business of saving lives.” That is the standard this Academy holds itself to. Not just productivity gains and career upgrades, but skills that reach into the most important work human beings do.
30 Days. 14 Modules. Real Skills.
Over 30 days, Cohort 5 will work through 14 modules and 40+ practical video lessons, going from AI fundamentals to hands-on implementation.
The program begins where every professional should: understanding how Generative AI actually works, learning to choose and use tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Meta AI, and DALL-E, and mastering prompt engineering techniques that produce genuinely useful results.
From there, the learning becomes specific to what each student actually does. Business owners build AI-powered marketing strategies, automate operations using tools like Zapier, Make, and Zoho Flow, and create content at a scale that was previously impossible without large teams. Career professionals sharpen their productivity, rebuild their LinkedIn presence, craft ATS-optimized CVs, and develop personal brands that position them for the opportunities AI is creating. Freelancers learn to package their skills into sellable services, write winning proposals, and deliver client work faster and at a higher standard.
The program closes with a module many students do not expect when they enroll: AI Agents. What they are, how to build one without writing a single line of code, and how to create a functional chatbot that solves a real problem.
Every module ends with a practical activity. Every week includes a live Zoom session for Q&A with the lead facilitator. The cohort also includes an implementation challenge where the strongest performers walk away with grand prizes, with more than one winner. By the time Cohort 5 graduates, each student will leave with a portfolio of real AI work, a certification, and a set of skills they can apply the very next day.
One Classroom. Multiple Industries.
Mining engineers. Architects. Copywriters. Property managers. Pharmacy technicians. Finance managers. A medical student. A filmmaker. A retired civil servant. All of them in the same space, learning the same foundational skills, applying them to completely different realities.
This is what AI Literacy Academy was built for. Not to train one type of professional for one type of industry, but to make practical AI skills accessible to anyone with the drive to learn and the ambition to apply them.
The South Sudan milestone is not just geography. It is evidence of something larger: that the professionals who understand AI will lead in every field, every sector, and every corner of the world. AI Literacy Academy’s commitment is to make sure as many of those professionals as possible are equipped, certified, and ready.
Cohort 5 is 129 of them. There will be more.
